Award Overview and Eligibility

The Regional Recognition Awards were created to honor East Central Illinois’ most ethical and socially responsible businesses, most influential community and economic development leaders, and most committed volunteers. East Central Illinois, as defined for these purposes includes Christian, Clark, Coles, Crawford, Cumberland, Douglas, Edgar, Effingham, Jasper, Moultrie, and Shelby counties.

The Business Ethics and Social Involvement (BESI) Award recognizes business firms and business leaders for their ethical business practices and their exemplary contributions to meeting the social needs of their communities.Specifically, the BESI Award recognizes firms and leaders for their:

Ethically and socially responsible business practices that positively contribute to society’s well-being.
Significant or distinctive contributions to meeting pressing social needs.
Enlightening business practices and principled leadership.

 Either individual business leaders or firms may be nominated; however, they must be engaged in for-profit business activity and can not be an active standing member of the Board of Directors or staff of the sponsoring organization.

The Outstanding Leadership in Community & Economic Development Award recognizes an individual,nonprofit, or volunteer organization for their measurable success in community and economic development. Specifically, the Outstanding Leadership in Community & Economic Development Award recognizes an organization’s or individual’s project or program success by its/their:

Years of experience in community and economic development.
Significance of their community and economic development accomplishments.
Demonstration of good networking and team approach to success.
General advancements in community and economic development.

 Any individual or nonprofit organization (or organizations if the effort was a collaborative one) that is engaged in economic and community development activities can be nominated for this award.  Only one nominee will be honored with this award annually.

The Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes a community or business leader for his/her outstanding leadership in the public and private sectors and who continually makes a positive difference in the community in which he/she lives, works, and serves. Specifically, the Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes an individual for his/her:

Twenty or more years of experience in community and economic development.
Significance of their community and economic development accomplishments.
Demonstration of networking and team approach to success.
General advancements in community and economic development.

Any individual who meets the criteria and has performed the submitted duties within the East Central Illinois Development Corporation boundaries can be nominated to receive this award except those currently employed by ECIDC.
